“The government decided to purchase 5,000 injections of Amphotericin B at a cost of Rs 3.12 crore to treat the infection. Across Gujarat, over 100 cases have been reported. At Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad, two wards with 60 beds each have been prepared with experts from different disciplines,” said a senior health department official. The CM told officials to ensure early detection and prevention of the infection by stringent screening at district levels.
“Before Covid-19, the prevalence of mucormycosis was rare. But factors such as immuno-compromised status, use of steroids during Covid treatment make patients vulnerable,” said a Civil Hospital official.
